Decor For Teen Rooms

Teen rooms are the bane of mothers everywhere. It’s not even like when they were younger. In those days, if their rooms were in a mess, you could shout at them and get them to tidy it up, and, if that didn’t work, you could go in and do a good job yourself. However, when it comes to teens and their rooms you’re dealing with something completely different.

Yes, you could go and ask them to tidy up their rooms. And yes, you could shout at them a bit, if you wanted to, or go and clean the room yourself. However, that’s when all hell breaks loose. Teen rooms are sacred places and not to be interfered with unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Let Heaven help the person who tries to tidy up the mess on the carpet. It was there for a good reason and you just had absolutely no right whatsoever to touch it. At least, that will be what most teens will argue and, you being the patient, loving mother that you are, will just roll your eyes skywards and explain that the pizza and grubby, old shirt thing just don’t work well together and that you were just rescuing them from impending plague.

Your teens will in turn roll their eyes and scream, not to exaggerate, it wasn’t about to grow legs and walk off on its own, and if it was then wouldn’t that make a great science project. So, you keep cleaning and they keep putting things back. And so ends the story, and you’re right back at square one.

Naturally, one way you could deal with this bomb site is to redecorate it. Teen rooms might be sanctums for them, but even they would like it if you gave their rooms a great makeover.

That doesn’t mean that the room will be any cleaner once they’ve moved back in, but at least you’ll have seen the inside of the room long enough to tide you over for the next couple of years. That is unless you’re thinking of redecorating their rooms every year.

But now you come to your next problem. Since teens are famously different when it comes to their rooms. You might find that your teen rooms are decorated quite differently from what you expected and what you would have done first of all. This is where a comprise should be struck, if your teen wants black for his room, then say you want another colour too that will offset the black.

Be prepared to give in a little on your ideas no matter how silly their ideas are. After all, they’re only a teen once and they will look back with horror on what bad taste they had.

Decorating kids rooms can be an enjoyable way to pass your time and also gives you the opportunity to bond with your children as well. You’ll be much happier for at least getting started on your decorating project and your kids will be happier for having their rooms redone too, not to mention the sheer fun you’ll be having while you’re busy doing all this. This isn’t of course to say, that decorating kids rooms isn’t hassle or stress free.

On the contrary, you’ll probably get a shedload more stress by the time you’ve finished, but at least you’ll have had the satisfaction of getting closer to your children and seeing their rooms tidy for at least one day before they move back into them again.

It’s a Sunday morning and you’re sitting there waiting for your coffee machine to finish its cycle, so you can have that vital early morning cup of coffee. Idly, you glance about your kitchen and notice a fleck of paint missing from the corner of the door. It had happened years ago but you never really took any notice of it until now.

Your gaze continues to stray and your eye gets caught by a patch of mildew seeping in under the sink, then you see the ugly brown colour that your ceiling has turned right above where the cooker is.

The paint is faintly off colour, and the only papered wall is starting to look rather old-fashioned and grubby. You take a strengthening sip of your now-ready coffee and decide that a little bit of kitchen decorating is needed.

Where do you start though? And how soon can you get into it? Now that you’ve finally noticed all the little signs of decay that you had been quite successfully ignoring up until that day, you can’t wait to get started on modest kitchen decorating plans.

However, this is decision time. Just how small do you mean to keep your kitchen decorating project? Can you get away with just slapping a fresh coat of paint on everything or will you need to go to the lengths of stripping the wallpaper off the wall, and finding out what had caused that mildew stain.

Sure enough, it all depends on you and your budget, but if you can spare the time, energy and money, you’ll probably do better, in the long run. to get rid of all your kitchen decorating problems at once. That would include stripping the wallpaper, replacing any carpeting or rugs that you might have, and perhaps even sanding down your wooden floors if you have those. If you’re going to do a complete job of kitchen decorating however then you’ll also need that all important final coat of fresh paint to brighten up your kitchen.

You might also want to think about replacing those tatty old curtains as they’re also probably looking distinctly old by now. So, go on and splurge on your kitchen decorating project and replace the curtains and while you’re at it, you should think of buying a new stack of tea towels as well. It won’t hurt to go the whole hog while you can.

And when you’ve eventually finished, you will be able to sit back and enjoy your new kitchen and remember that weekend morning that started it all off. You’ll have absolutely no regrets whatsoever, since your kitchen decorating project has provided you with a far better kitchen than you had ever hoped for.

A feeling of contentment flows through you as you lift your new coffee mug to your lips. Life just doesn’t get any better than when you’re enjoying the fruits of your labour.

South-Western Home Decor

So what exactly is southwestern home decor and how can you get it into your own home? Well, to start with southwestern home decor reflects the southwest and all its most famous traits. Southwestern home decor uses colourful throw rugs, gorgeous wall hangings, and if you look hard enough, you can even find great kitchen accessories as well.

If you’re thinking about introducing southwestern home decor into your home, first of all, you need to check whether it will fit in with your existing decor or whether it would clash horribly. Almost all southwestern home decor has bright, eye catching colours, as well as stunning designs and motifs.

So, if your existing furniture would clash with any of these beautiful pieces, you can do one of two things. Firstly, you could always just ditch all your old furniture and replace them with fantastic pieces of southwestern home decor. Or you could just buy one or two pieces of the southwestern home decor range and match them carefully with your existing pieces.

Personally speaking, I would rather replace everything I have since there’s some wear, but in the real world that’s just not possible. For one thing it would just be way over my budget, and for another I would rather not have to listen to a lecture from my mother about extravagance. I’ve found out that you can escape from your friends but not from your mother!

However, I’m also more than little relieved that I didn’t give into my first impulse and redecorate everything in a southwestern home decor style. Granted that it does look great, but sometimes I also like the peace and quiet that some of my other pieces of furniture bring about in me. Therefore, I have now come up with the ideal solution and have instead decided on buying one-off pieces that catch my attention and sprinkling my home with those instead.

And I must say that its made quite a difference to the look and feel of my entire home. Lush and rich pieces of the more traditional furniture now sit quite comfortably next to the more vibrant and stunning designs of my southwestern home decor. I’ve also bought a great rug for my bathroom floor and a gorgeous set of hand towels. My kitchen has a new set of southwestern motifs, and my foyer has the most amazing lampshade and statuette in prominent view.

Though all of this might sound too much, I’ve found that this is the best way to bring the glories of southwestern home decor into your life, without going all out and renewing my whole house with southwestern decor and motifs.

Moreover, you only want to add a little of southwestern decor to your home, not the whole sheebang. Oh, and did I forget to mention the gorgeous tapestry I bought the other day? It’s just right.
