Contemplating A Trucking Career?

It is a fact that more and more people are looking into a truck driving career with the economy like it is. However, this is not a bad thing. Depending on what kind of truck gig you work you will find different kind benefits as well as disadvantages.

Many truckers move goods depending on the season. For example, during the fall, you will find many truckers moving harvested goods like corn and other crops.

During the spring time truckers will move seed, fertilizer, fuel and other equipment needed for farms. Also log truckers take to the woods moving valuable wood products as well as the supplies needed to harvest the wood.

Specialty Trucking

Coal truckers move coal year around as miners harvest the coal. There are also many jobs for rock truckers and other movers. You sure can’t forget movers and shipping companies.

Short haul trucking companies delivery goods in a limited area but sometimes might have to delivery further than expected. Some truckers may have a route that they take everyday such as a trip from Birmingham to Atlanta back to Birmingham.

Contracting can have a wide variety factors including time and amount. Some goods can be very time sensitive and being late can destroy the goods costing huge amounts of money.

One positive, however, of short haul trucking is job security. Many locally moved goods need to be moved everyday and many companies hire full time drivers. Many of these positions may have a very good benefit package for truckers.

So, if you are looking for the long haul or want to be a short haul trucker, the road can be a great place to start a long career. Think about the possibilities and keep on trucking to a new way of life!
